What is Walken?
Walken combines two hot concepts in today’s crypto and GameFi spaces, Play2Earn and Exercise2Earn (also referred to as Move2Earn or Walk2Earn). By exercising, players earn in-app tokens (GEM), which they can use to upgrade in-game avatars that battle to earn WLKN, the project’s native token. Walken is built on the Solana blockchain and developed by the team that developed Appyfurious and Getfit Apps.
A big part of Walken’s value to the user is its integration with DeFi platforms, encouraging users, especially new crypto holders, to use and benefit from DeFi services. Furthermore, Walken is looking to bring in developers and 3rd party game studios into its ecosystem in order to facilitate crypto adoption and improve the value of the WLKN token.
Further down the road, Walken has plans to build out its protocol, allowing developers to deploy apps. These apps, quite interestingly, will operate on Walken’s earn model. What this means is that developers will earn revenue from the continued activities and earnings of their users.
The vision from the Walken team is that once functionalities such as a DeFi wallet and other offerings are deployed within the ecosystem, gaming studios will be able to easily plug them into their game and thus offer a DeFi experience to their own users.
How does Walken work?
Users get rewarded with Walken’s native token, WLKN, for exercising and playing games.
Like other GameFi platforms, a user’s avatar, or in-game character, is represented as an NFT. These NFTs, of course, can be bought and sold in various marketplaces.
Walken has designed its app to be very accessible and utilizes existing smartphone and smart wearables technology for its Move2Earn product. What this means is that the movement detection within your phone, along with the data from Apple Healthkit and Android Health are used to determine things like steps taken in order to reward users and provide an overall smooth experience.
Walken’s app also has a separate currency, GEM, which users earn for exercising. GEM can be used to upgrade a user’s in-app character’s attributes. Why are these character attributes important, you might ask? Well, this is where Walken’s whole Play2Earn portion comes in.
One’s in-game character, which is called a CAThlete, has attributes such as speed, strength, and stamina that will help them in battles where players can win and earn WLKN tokens. Players can acquire WLKN on exchanges or DEX’s as well as buy items in WLKN’s marketplace in order to upgrade their character more quickly.
Further down the road, the app has plans to add more social features such as leaderboards, shareable moments of in-game events, and more.
What can you do with $WLKN?
WLKN, Walken’s native token, is a governance token with staking capabilities. Of course, with WLKN’s plans of heavy integration with DeFi applications, its token will also have utility to interact with said apps.
