BTC comes out of the week aiming at $24,000

Bitcoin’s (BTC) price saw a slight retreat over the course of this week, however on the rise on the 27th. At the time of writing, BTC is trading at $23,321.05 and ready to once again cross $24,000. The 24H Gainers on Poloniex as of Monday are TRU/TUSD, FCT2/USDT, RDNT/USDT, XEM/BTC, and SNX/BTC.

So, what happened?

Top-shot might be ruled to be securities, rules federal judge in years-long court case

Last week, a United States federal judge ruled that NBA Top Shot, an NFT offering from Dapper Labs that was a hallmark of the NFT explosion in 2022, could be ruled a security under US law. While this ruling does not mean that NBA Top Shot is automatically considered a security, it is quite a substantial update in a case involving a lawsuit against Dapper Labs that charges the company with offering non-fungible tokens without taking the proper steps to register with the US Securities and Exchange commission.

This comes after an effort by Dapper Labs to dismiss the lawsuit, and means that the courts have decided that there is credence to the notion at hand. For Dapper Labs’ part, its lawyer argues that like basketball and Pokémon cards, NBA Top Shot are in fact not securities. The lawsuit comes amid increasing regulatory scrutiny in the US towards blockchain applications.

Google plans to become a validator on Tezos

Google Cloud, Google’s cloud computing platform, will soon become a validator on the Tezos blockchain. This comes through a partnership with the Swiss-based Tezos Foundation, the not-for-profit supporting and developing Tezos. This means that developers using Google Cloud services will be able to deploy nodes on the network as well as build blockchain-based applications.

This follows Google’s previous Web3 integrations- running a node-hosting service and becoming a validator on the Ethereum and Solana networks, respectively. This bodes well for the industry as more and more tech titans are turning their attention towards blockchain technology.
